Volunteering Opportunity
Community Residential Home Manager
Cambodia

Care and Relief for the Young (CRY) is proposing to work in partnership with Stung Treng Woman Development Centre (SWDC) in Stung Treng, Cambodia. We are looking to recruit suitable volunteer/s to set-up and manage our newly build Community Children's Home.
We are seeking an experienced, motivated and caring individual for this position and a qualification working with children is essential. This position is approximately for 12 months, housing and generous living allowance will be paid for by CRY.

Background info of the project in Cambodia:

Back in July, partnering with an Austrian church, CRY committed to build a new children’s home in Cambodia. Marcia Hammond, CRY’s representative in Asia and founder of the successful Waiting Houses for pregnant women in Cambodia, discovered a desperate need for a safe environment to house needy children in Strung Treng Province. Although there are a number of ‘orphanages’ in Cambodia already, CRY’s intention is to provide a Community Children's Home using the ‘family unit’ model which has been successful in other CRY projects, such as the Home of Hope in Albania and Father’s House in Ukraine. The idea is to build a safe environment where the children will experience love and care within a family unit. Where appropriate, children with relatives will be supported accordingly.
The build of “P’teh Knioum” meaning “My House” children's home will commence in December 2011 and will house 30 children from the age of four upwards. As well as orphans, the children will come from poor backgrounds where parents are not able to take care of them, some will be victims of violence and abuse. The Home will offer these children an opportunity to make something of their lives by providing them with the love, care and assistance they deserve in life. It will also provide each child with an education along with health promotion (such as sexual health education with particular emphasis on HIV/AIDS awareness).
The children will be encouraged to stay in education for as long as possible. However, if this is not practical, alternatives such as vocational training opportunities will be provided. The Home will also endeavour to reunite the children with their families whenever possible, giving them continuing support and after-care.
