SOUTH WEST NEWS

CRY Celebrates 20 Years
In 1992 a lorry load of goods left Southampton for Romania in Eastern Europe. In this year 2012, and hundreds of projects later, CRY is celebrating 20 years as a charity.  Pictured are a group of stalwart local Cornish based supporters at a 20th Birthday morning in Wadebridge Town Hall recently, with a special homemade cake by Ann Smith of Chapel Amble enjoyed by all present.

The morning raised a valuable £264 for CRY funds. The total raised in the last ten years in the South West is close on £170,000, great news for children, young people and families that CRY has supported over that time and this year help is being given in 16 countries overseas.

Joining in the birthday celebrations, many of the regular helpers for CRY's local events, L-R Gwen Wills, Jill Nute, Andy Wills, Gill Barker, Gill Harrison, local CRY co-ordinator Rev Ray Avent, Angela Williams, cake maker Ann Smith, Carol Avent and Kate Graham.

  CRY at Tremeer
Despite the threat of wet weather the sun shone for many children around the world who currently look to CRY for help. The Open Gardens event at St Tudy, by kind permssion of Lady Vanessa, raised a valuable £1,223 for CRY.  This was the result of a great joint effort by people in St Tudy Methodist and other CRY supporters in this area.  Thanks also to instrumentalists and singers from Taunton School, the splendid St Breward Puppets, schoolchildren from St Tudy and  other local craft groups. This crowned CRY's twentieth birthday weekend which locally raised £1,900 plus in total.

Twenty Schools making a difference and showing how much they care!

Ray has experienced some wonderful times with children South West schools over the last four years. Twenty or more schools regularly hear from him about caring for other children particularly within the framework of what CRY is attempting worldwide. Every assembly ends with a 'quiet time' during which staff and pupils give thanks for all the good things they have and focus on the needs of others their own age around the world. Invariably you can hear the 'proverbial' pin drop! Many schools like Port Isaac, Cornwall, pictured here, have also raised valuable funds for CRY projects. Their combination of thinking, caring and giving is very impressive.

Hello everyone, in recent years support for the work of CRY currently in 15 countries and through 20 plus projects overseas CRY continues to bring relief, ongoing blessing and a new start that so many needy people. People in the South West have been an integral part of that progress now for a number of years. A small army of supporters have each played their role in under-girding through prayer and practical help this steadily expanding Christian based work. I am delighted to announce that income in the South West over recent years for CRY has today exceeded £150,000 with more in the pipeline this side of Christmas.
This is a significant milestone for which I genuinely say 'thank you everyone'. Let us go forward again in confidence, building on past achievements and determined to see 2012 (CRY's 20th Anniversary Year since its 1992 beginnings) as another time of blessing around the world through CRY.

Did you ever collect stamps?

Many people over the years have adopted stamp collecting as a hobby and/or investment. I had a collection myself as a boy in fact I still collect British 'first day covers'. CRY has an opportunity to raise valuable funds for the work it does around the world through collecting and selling stamps online - British and foreign. One of our supporters regularly sells donated stamps in 500 gram lots on ebay for CRY with prices starting at £13 and sometimes reaching £27, overseas stamps start at £14 and can fetch £27 per 500 grammes.
Would you consider joining our 'West Country Stamp Collecting Club'? If you have a good local spot where you can place one of our Stamp Collecting Boxes or just want to collect them within your circle of family and friends please get in touch. Any special stamps will be carefully valued so if you have a collection you no longer want. let me know - that's Ray Avent on 01208 816821, email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. SCHOOL PARTNERSHIP WITH TAUNTON SCHOOL IN SOMERSET

Headmaster, Dr John Newton

"Taunton School is working with CRY to establish a school in Rwanda. The School has made this project the beneficiary of its fundraising in its annual RAG week activities. Further discussion is taking place to explore the possibility of sending senior pupils to support teaching or engage in practical tasks. For some years, Taunton School has been proud to work with CRY in helping out with its summer camp for the Home of Hope a home for orphans in Albania."
