| | SUPPORT FOR REFUGEES, JAPANESE WELL VILLAGE, KANCHANABURI PROVINCE
Last supported in 2008 In 2008 CRY was able to access a grant for the building of a school dormitory and dentistry clinic in partnership with Mercy Teams International.
The Karen Burmese people who live in this area, have been subjected to extreme pressure and persecution within Burma, with many thousands now living in the jungles on the Thai/Burmese border. Japanese Well Village is in a relatively peaceful part of this region where several hundred of the refugees are allowed to live just inside Thailand but with no Thai citizenship status, denied access to schools and other services. They are a traumatised, neglected and displaced people.
Mercy Teams International have built and operate a school attended by 72 children, either orphans or more commonly single-parented, with no proper accommodation and many stay and sleep around the school site. The dormitory accommodation has provided a secure place for them to stay, receive regular food and care.
