HISTORICAL REPORT ONLY Orphanage Support In 1994 CRY supported Care for Children (CfC) with a significant grant towards the refurbishment of 3 orphanages in Mudanjiang; Chendu and Quinhe. CfC was established in 1998 to relieve hardship, distress and sickness in abandoned and orphaned children in China by the introduction of strategic initiatives in child care practice, at the request of, and in cooperation with, the Chinese national and local authorities. CfC believes that the best environment for most children to grow and develop is the family. Accordingly they work with the Chinese National Government and local governments to establish quality foster care programmes that put the needs of children first. CfC also seeks to make available to the Chinese Government the best experience and ideas of the West for the development of social welfare programmes and facilities that serve the needs of orphans, disabled children and others in need. Following the success of the pilot foster care programme in Shanghai, CfC were invited to work in a number of Chinese cities and are seeking to develop quality programmes in several other cities, with a particular emphasis on the poorer regions of China.
