CRY LESOTHO

QHOLAQHOE
Community Centre

CRY is funding the establishment of a HealthCare and Community Uplift Centre in Qholaqhoe - the main village in Makhoekhweng Province, North East Lesotho, with a population of some 12,000 extremely poor Basotho. Lesotho is listed as the worlds poorest nation and is currently suffering a prolonged severe drought.

Unemployment is 70%, tragically there is a 38% HIV/AIDS infection rate, medical provision and social services are minimal. Educational opportunities are limited, literacy levels low, with little skills training such as farming or business generally. All these issues will be addressed in a major way through the building of this Centre.

Having worked out of a tent for the last 4 years the Rebobothe Church has established a successful farming training programme, HIV/AIDS home based care and education programme and skills training for young people. These programmes will be greatly extended and added to through the building of this permanent centre which will include a hall, office, bathrooms, 3-room clinic, meeting room for training and a store - a total of 440 sq mtrs.

This programme will also include farming and other skills training; a ‘Trading Centre’; ‘Peoples Market’; and literacy. Youth employment activities such as sport will be provided for by the ‘Upward’ sporting foundation.

Another alternative is to set up a bank standing order (UK residents only) where the charity will also benefit (with tax payers) from GiftAid.
