What we love about the Congo

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) is a country rich in cultural diversity, natural resources, and unique wildlife. One beautiful fact about the DRC is its stunning biodiversity. The country is home to a significant portion of Africa's tropical rainforests, including the second-largest contiguous tropical rainforest in the world after the Amazon. The DRC's natural beauty and biodiversity make it a truly special and important part of our global ecosystem.

The challenge(s)

The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has been facing several crises, including political instability, armed conflict, and humanitarian challenges. Here's a summary of the ongoing crisis in the DRC:

  1. Armed Conflict: The eastern region of the DRC, particularly North Kivu and South Kivu provinces, continues to be a hotspot for armed conflict involving various rebel groups, militias, and government forces. This conflict has resulted in widespread displacement of populations, loss of life, and human rights abuses.

  2. Humanitarian Crisis: The ongoing conflict and insecurity have led to a severe humanitarian crisis in the DRC. Millions of people are internally displaced, and many more are in need of humanitarian assistance, including food, clean water, and healthcare. The situation is exacerbated by outbreaks of diseases like cholera, measles, and Ebola.

The situation in the DRC remains complex and volatile, with multiple overlapping crises exacerbating the suffering of the Congolese people.

Our response:

Through our partners (IDS), we are collaborating with a local school in Goma, North Kivu - situated at the epicentre of the crisis. We are providing meals 4 times a week, for 45 internally displaced orphans living in one of the informal settlements. Many of the children we work with would faint during their lessons due to hunger. Your donation today will enable us to sustain food provision and ensure the safety and health of Congolese children attending school in this crisis-affected region.
