Don’t forget the poor.

In recent months, several ‘powerful’ nations have announced cuts to their aid and humanitarian budgets. The reasons vary—some may be seen as justifiable, depending on one’s perspective.
While aid is not a perfect solution, it provides critical relief to millions worldwide. Beyond meeting immediate needs, it also plays a role in preventing conflict, supporting democracy, and curbing the influence of oppressive regimes. These cuts will have a profound impact on those who rely on such support.
As a charity, our mission is to also pray and advocate for children’s rights — while trying to respect the diverse views and choices of people & governments across the political spectrum.
However, this moment raises an important question: Are we becoming a society that is increasingly turning its back on the needs of the poor?
The Bible instructs us: “To not forget the poor” — Galatians 2:10
There seems to be a growing mainstream narrative that the poor, refugees, and marginalised are viewed as second-class citizens—or even as people unworthy of our care, love, and support.
Yet, despite this, we are encouraged to see a different reality.
Through our network and connections, we witness a movement of ordinary people, small charities, and community groups coming together to serve those in need—both locally and beyond borders.
While large corporations and governments may be scaling back their aid efforts, a powerful grassroots response is emerging. These are often faith-based groups, small charities, or individuals who quietly give and serve—never making the headlines, but faithfully living out the principle of giving in secret, as taught in Matthew 6.
A word of encouragement and a challenge:
The charity sector is facing immense challenges—resources are stretched thin, and now even governments are cutting aid. So here’s a thought: why not support grassroots charities?
The UK is home to many small charities doing incredible, life-changing work—yet many are struggling to survive. While they may not reach millions, they make a profound difference to those they do help—people who are deeply valued by God.
Why not check out the platform that our friends at Stewardship have developed on their website—“Cause Finder”? It’s a great way to browse amazing charities and make a difference by donating.
Alternatively, if you feel compelled, you can always donate directly to us. Your support enables us to make a real difference in the lives of children across the world. While our contribution may seem modest—reminiscent of the small offering of fish and loaves presented to Jesus—it nonetheless makes a profound impact. Often, those on the receiving end are from nations that will be bearing the brunt of these new government decisions.
Don’t forget the poor. Go grassroots.
Join us in prayer
Lord,
Help us to remember the poor and marginalised, and grant us the compassion to support them, especially in times of need. Guide us to be generous and faithful in serving others, even in small ways. May our actions reflect Your love and bring hope to those who need it most.
In Jesus’ name,
Amen.
