Creating Futures

Beyond Poverty, Beyond Your Lifetime.

On this page, you can explore how to leave a gift in Your Will to: Care and Relief for the Young.

Our mission — and our reason for existing — is to see children rise beyond poverty. It was our purpose when we began in 1992; it remains our mission today, more than three decades later, and it will continue to guide us long into the future.

We invite you to journey with us in this work by investing in futures beyond poverty — now, but also beyond your lifetime. In doing so, you can know that your contribution will be a lasting beacon of light for children facing some of the most desperate circumstances on earth.

Why leave a gift to CRY?

"Leaving a gift to CRY in our will allows us to turn support in our lifetimes into a lasting legacy of hope. It makes us feel good to know that even after we are gone, we can continue to make a difference for vulnerable children through a charity that truly reflects what we stand for. It’s a simple gesture that facilitates care for years to come."

Below is a guide to help you make a difference through your legacy.

Care and Relief for the Young cannot accept responsibility for the legal validity of any will. We recommend that you seek advice from a qualified solicitor when making or updating your will.

Step 1: Choose the type of gift you would like to leave

You can include a gift to Care and Relief for the Young in your will on your own. There are three main ways to do this:

  • Residuary gift | This is a share or percentage of your estate left after any other specific gifts and expenses have been made. This type of gift is not affected by inflation.

  • Pecuniary gift | This is a fixed sum of money. You may ask your solicitor to index-link it. Index-linking means the gift increases automatically over time in line with inflation or cost-of-living changes. This ensures your gift keeps its real value and the same intended impact, even if prices rise.

  • Specific item | Some people choose to leave a particular possession, such as property, shares, or jewellery.

Step 2: Suggested wording for your will

Below are suggested templates you can use when adding a gift to Care and Relief for the Young. Simply fill in the blanks with your chosen gift.

For a residuary gift:

I GIVE ___% of the residue of my estate (after payment of all debts, funeral and testamentary expenses and any other legacies) to Care and Relief for the Young (known as CRY), Registered Charity number 1011513, of Sovereign Place, Upper Northam Road, Southampton SO30 4BZ, to be used for its general charitable purposes.

I DECLARE that the receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or any other duly authorised officer of the said charity shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executors for this gift.

For a pecuniary gift:

I GIVE to Care and Relief for the Young (known as CRY), Registered Charity number 1011513, of Sovereign Place, Upper Northam Road, Southampton SO30 4BZ, the sum of £___ to be used for its general charitable purposes.

I DECLARE that the receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or any other duly authorised officer of the said charity shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executors for this gift.

(You may wish to ask your solicitor to index-link this gift so that its value is protected against inflation.)

For a specific item or asset:

I GIVE to Care and Relief for the Young (known as CRY), Registered Charity number 1011513, of Sovereign Place, Upper Northam Road, Southampton SO30 4BZ, my [insert description of specific item or asset] to be used for its general charitable purposes.

I DECLARE that the receipt of the Honorary Treasurer or any other duly authorised officer of the said charity shall be a full and sufficient discharge to my Executors for this gift.

Step 3: Making it legally valid

To be legally valid, a will (or any update to it) must be:

  • In writing,

  • Signed by you (the testator),

  • Witnessed by two independent witnesses who are present at the same time.

You can update an existing will with a codicil or create a new will entirely.

Step 4: Let us know

If you choose to leave a gift, please contact us by:

  • Email at hello@cry.org.uk or

We would love to thank you personally and share with you the difference your generosity will make in the lives of children.
