Standing with Nepal — after the headlines move on.
CRY has been supporting vulnerable children in Nepal for many years through our trusted local partners. In recent weeks, devastating flooding has shaken parts of the country. Lives have been lost, families displaced, and homes, schools, and vital infrastructure damaged or destroyed.
Immediate emergency relief is essential, and the efforts so far by many charities have been inspirational and we thank them wholeheartedly. Speaking to our partners on the ground, there is another stage of a disaster that is equally important that we mustn’t forget:
what happens afterwards.
The cameras leave. The headlines move on. But children and families are left facing months, sometimes years, of recovery.
Some of our beneficiaries enjoying time together, playing and finding moments of joy despite the ongoing social and environmental challenges they face.
That is why we are launching this appeal and establishing a Nepal Recovery Relief Fund.
Every donation will be split 50/50.
• 50% will support CRY’s existing work with vulnerable children in Nepal, including a children's centre in an area affected by some of the flooding. This helps us continue standing alongside children whose everyday needs remain, even in the midst of a disaster.
• 50% will go into our Nepal Recovery Relief Fund, dedicated to supporting the longer-term recovery from the flooding through our trusted Nepali partners. As the full scale of the devastation becomes clearer, this could include help rebuilding classrooms and children’s accommodation, supporting children who have lost family members, and restoring water and sanitation facilities. CRY and our partners have already identified areas of need, but we are waiting for a clearer picture of the longer-term impact before finalising the projects we will support.
