What do we love?

Art in Afghanistan is a rich tapestry woven from the nation's diverse cultural heritage and tumultuous history. Traditional Afghan art includes intricate carpet weaving, vibrant tile work, and detailed miniature paintings, reflecting influences from Persian, Indian, and Central Asian cultures. Despite decades of conflict and political upheaval, contemporary Afghan artists continue to create, often blending traditional motifs with modern themes to address social issues, resilience, and identity.

What are the challenges?

For children in Afghanistan living with additional needs, the challenges are even greater. Years of conflict, poverty and instability have left many children and their families without access to the specialist care, support and opportunities they desperately need. Children with disabilities are often among the most vulnerable, facing barriers to education, healthcare, inclusion and daily support, leaving them at greater risk of isolation and neglect.

What are our partners doing?

Our partner, with the help of CRY, provides crucial support to these children and their families, offering care, education, practical assistance, and opportunities that help children develop their abilities, build confidence, and experience the dignity and hope they deserve. Through this work, children who are often overlooked are given the chance to thrive and reach their full potential - beyond poverty.

A Child, like Hassan*.

Beyond every project, there are children—individual children. Here’s a case study from Afghanistan.

Hassan joined the school in the first grade as a deaf student and, through years of education and support, is now in the ninth grade. Despite living with vitiligo, a skin condition that causes white patches on the skin, Hassan has shown great determination, creativity, and resilience.

A talented artist, Hassan has developed his skills at the school and now works as a drawing teacher at a private school. Through his work, he is able to support himself and contribute towards his family’s needs.

Hassan’s story shows the life-changing impact of inclusive education, helping children with additional needs discover their abilities and build a brighter future.
