What do we love?

The Philippines is a stunning archipelago renowned for its breathtaking landscapes, from pristine beaches and crystal-clear waters to lush mountains and vibrant coral reefs. Its beauty is complemented by the warmth and hospitality of its people, who are known for their friendliness, resilience, and rich cultural heritage.

What are the challenges?

Poverty in the Philippines significantly impacts children, depriving them of essential needs such as adequate nutrition, education, and healthcare. Many children are forced into child labour or begging to support their families, often exposing them to exploitation and dangerous conditions. The lack of access to quality education perpetuates the cycle of poverty, limiting future opportunities. Poor living conditions in urban slums increase vulnerability to diseases, malnutrition, and violence, undermining their overall well-being and development.

What are our partners doing?

Hands and Feet UK have been actively working in the Philippines. During this time, they have established themselves in various communities and have supported children and young people in their education and development. Along the way, they have encountered individuals living in extreme poverty and have been able to address their unique needs with compassion and care.

The organisation chose the name "Hands and Feet" to reflect their commitment to physically demonstrating love and offering practical help to those who are vulnerable and in need. Inspired by the example of Jesus, who walked among communities and showed unconditional love, they strive to emulate this mission to the best of their ability.

Their outreach programme delivers between 8 and 17 community outreaches each month, depending on weather, finances, volunteer availability, and access to locations.

Through these outreaches, they provide hot, cooked meals to children from some of the most disadvantaged areas, including slums, inner-city communities, jungle regions, and squatter settlements. Each month, up to 700 children are fed.

Alongside meeting physical needs, the team shares love, hope, and encouragement, and motivates children to attend school as a step towards breaking the cycle of poverty.
