What do we love?

The Gambia is beautiful in many ways. It combines stunning river landscapes, rich cultural heritage and warm hospitality. Home to a variety of ethnic groups, including the Mandinka, Fula, Wolof, Jola and Serahule peoples, The Gambia is shaped by a vibrant diversity of traditions, languages and customs. Known as the "Smiling Coast of Africa," it offers visitors a unique blend of history, wildlife and community life, attracting people from around the world to experience its charm and character.

What are the challenges?

Yet behind this beauty, many children face significant challenges. Poverty remains a daily reality for thousands of families in several communities where access to quality education, healthcare and nutritious food can be limited. Many children grow up in households struggling to meet basic needs, making it harder for them to stay in school and reach their full potential.

What are our partners doing?

We are delighted to partner with Spring of Life Association Gambia (SOLAG), working together to empower and transform the lives of children and young people through education in Sinchu Alagie and surrounding communities. Spring of Life School currently supports 290 children, made up of 115 boys and 175 girls, providing them with access to affordable, quality education and a safe learning environment.

The children who attend the school come predominantly from low-income families and many would otherwise be out of education entirely if not for this work. For many households, the cost of schooling would be an insurmountable barrier, meaning that access to education would not be possible without this support.

The CRY x SOLAG partnership’s work will help strengthen impact—easing the financial burden on parents, supporting the ongoing running costs of the school, and providing full school sponsorship for some children. It will also invest in staff development and help ensure that more children can access education and build brighter futures, free from the cycle of poverty.
