Quarry To School

This summer, you can help a youth to rise above a childhood of working in a dangerous quarry.

For just £130, you can help CRY lift a child in Madagascar out of child labour. Your donation would give them access to education starting this September, along with school uniform(s), nutritious food, and vital mental health care. The clock is ticking — partner with us today.

You can also donate towards this campaign via your Stewardship account, if you have one.

  1. School for one academic year.
  2. Hot meals 5 times a week.
  3. Mental Health support and care.

Why this campaign?

For several years, thanks to the faithful support of our generous donors and charity shop customers, we have had the privilege of partnering with Le Triomphe Children’s Home in Madagascar. Together, we provide care, safety, education, and hope for 36 children living at the home full-time. These children are orphaned, abandoned, placed in care due to abuse, or have unfortunately encountered the hazards of child labour. We also support their feeding programme every Saturday for hundreds more from the wider community.

Thanks to recent donations, as well as the ongoing fundraising campaign by our US partners — The Collaborative Project, we are on track to cover the majority of the aforementioned ongoing needs for 2025.

This new campaign allows us to extend our assistance even further, with the goal of rescuing an additional 30 children by the end of August.

A call to go the extra mile

During a recent visit, we witnessed a heartbreaking reality we cannot ignore. Children, some as young as five, are working long, dangerous hours in a nearby quarry.

Instead of attending school, they spend their days breaking rocks under the scorching sun, inhaling dust, and, if lucky, earning just €0.80 a day — barely enough to buy three cups of rice, in most cases, for their only meal.

We will not look away. That’s why we are launching this special summer appeal: to get 30 additional children out of the quarry and into school by the end of August.

Partner with CRY to give one child a fresh start with a one-off donation of £130. Your gift will enable a child to start school this September, receive proper nutrition and pastoral care, and be freed from child labour.

The launch of this initiative will allow CRY and Le Triomphe to respond to this urgent need immediately, while giving us one year to seek long-term, sustainable funding to continue supporting these children beyond their first year. Furthermore, our dedicated partners on the ground will engage with the respective mothers or carers of these children, aiming to educate them on the importance of education and to encourage consideration of alternative ways to best raise their children.

Please note: If we raise more than is required to support the additional 30 children by August, any surplus will be allocated to sustain the ongoing care of the 36 children already in the orphanage, to support the Saturday Feeding Programme, or to provide for these additional 30 children in 2026, as we aim to continue this support in a sustainable manner.

Here's a powerful illustration from one of our charity ambassadors - Emsy - which perfectly encapsulates the vision of this appeal.
